Letter in Support of Roy Bourgeois Published

Dear Friends,

Because of your support, the open letter in support of courageous
priest Father Roy Bourgeois was published in the National Catholic
Reporter Christmas issue. We especially wish to recognize Frank Meuers,
Marilyn Lieber, Raymond McGrath, Barbara O'Connor, whose names were
left off of the published copy of the ad by mistake. Thank you for
helping make this community effort possible!

It was wonderful to see the outpouring of community support for Roy,
his long work for justice around the world. Today Roy continues his
work to organize people of conscience to shut down the torture School
of the Americas at Ft. Benning Georgia. It will be critical to press
this cause as the page is turned in Washington, before bloody old
patterns take hold again.

Meanwhile, women called to priesthood in the Catholic Church have
greater visibility and are continuing their struggle to achieve
recognition. We hope that many others will think deeply on this and
find the courage of their convictions without the self-censorship the
Vatican relies on to keep the "sheep" under control. By holding up Roy
as a model we hope others may boldly speak out in support of women's
equality.
